Being Human Fesitval

In November 2024 BADA worked with staff and MA students from Liverpool John Moores University to stage an event on Hilbre as part of the 'Being Human Festival' - (a national day of celebration of the Humanities). Students researched the history and mythologies of Hilbre, which became the focus of poetry readings and performances. They contributed to public artist workshops run by BADA, which were used to explain the special ecology of the island. Rock Sea Lavender (indigenous to Hilbre), became the focus of artworks and performances curated with, BADA & MA students and LJMU staff. This provided a new interpretation for public participants, making normally specialist botanical knowledge accessible through the use of art, poetry and performance. Feedback from University observers described this as “one of the best public engagement events they had ever seen.”
